Springing and Flinging and Bears, Oh My! |
April/May 2011 |
|
Dear Miniature Enthusiast,
Some people will tell you that the first sign of spring is the return of the robins. Others will tell you that it's the first daffodil to open its petals to the sun. Personally I've always felt it was officially Spring when I saw the first Cadbury commercial of the year.
That all changed in 2007 when Greenleaf hosted the first annual Spring Fling Contest. Ever since then the first sign of Spring is when miniaturists begin to talk about the Spring Fling. It begins as a whisper when the first person speculates on what the new kit might be like and gradually increases to a roar just before the big announcement is made. When we finally get to see the 2011 kit it's like New Year's Eve in Time's Square! Everyone is excited and can't wait to get one of their very own.
This year Greenleaf really knocked our socks off by creating a kit with so many compatible components to choose from that it looks completely different to everyone who sees it. It seems like everything from the copula to the dormer windows have multiple personalities all on their own. Put them together and the potential for creating your own architectural style is endless!
But the thing that appeals to me the most is how these individual components can be used on other houses as easily as the contest house. My brain immediately went into overtime considering how the side additions could add extra rooms to almost any dollhouse.
Can you tell I'm excited about this year's kit? It seems like everyone is flinging their way right into this year's contest and having a lot of fun already. You don't want to miss all the chatter so be sure and join us in the discussion on our dollhouse forum.

The Smaller They Are, The Harder They Fall
By Deb Roberts
We've all heard the story about how the little house from Kansas became caught up in a tornado and landed on top of a wicked witch (who had an unmistakably diva style in shoes) in another land far away. It's a timeless movie and a beloved favorite of several generations. I've lived a fair portion of my life in Kansas where the Wizard of Oz is as common as sunflowers so I've never really given a whole lot of thought to it until just recently when I returned to the area to visit a friend.
The small town she lives in is home to the Official "Dorothy's House" Museum. I hadn't intended to go there until I heard about a specific piece of the movie memorabilia that is on exhibit at the museum. Imagine my reaction when I found out that I could go see one of the miniature houses used in the tornado scene in the movie!

The Name Game
By Deb Roberts
It's that time again! Not only do we do a lot of 'Flinging this time of year, but it's also the time of year when we play The Name Game. The object of the game is easy - look at the picture and see if you can guess the name of the Greenleaf/Corona Concept house where the room or feature belongs. For extra fun, see if you can guess the name of the forum member who built the house.

The Critter Corner!
New Flash: "Giant Cat Terrorizes Barn Rodents"
Old McDonald may have had a barn cat but Bluebear has a kitty that's as big as the barn! I think we can be sure that any mice who had ideas of moving into this barn will scream and run in the opposite direction when they see Halo. Halo seems to be pretty comfortable in the loft anyway so it looks like it's the perfect situation for everyone except the mice.
Thanks to Bluebear for sharing such a cute picture with us. She and Halo will receive a $25 gift certificate from Petsmart for being featured in this month's Critter Corner.
If you'd like to submit your pet's picture for
consideration for the Critter Corner, you can upload
pictures in the "Good Pets
acting bad!" or "Good Pets acting cute!"
galleries at the Greenleaf Forum.
