    Miniature Dress Tutorial

    Miniature Dress Tutorial

    This lovely miniature gown can be easily used for an evening dress, a wedding gown or, cut shorter, for daytime wear.   Add laces, beads and trims for an elegant look.

    You’ll need:

    Fabric of your choice
    Toothpicks
    Clear drying glue
    Trims and laces as you desire
    Miniature coathanger

    Copy and paste the pattern into a word processing or photo editing program and size it to your desired dimensions.

    First, cut the pieces. Notice that you need to cut two sleeves, but only one skirt and one body piece.

    With a toothpick, spread a small line of glue on the dart (the V cut-out part) to the right side of fabric.

    Press closed, hold for a few seconds. Glue both darts, then set aside.

    Apply a thin line of glue to wrong side of the bottom straight edge of sleeve. Fold up a small hem. Repeat for other sleeve. Set aside.

    Turn bodice right side out and finger press darts open.

    Apply thin line of clue to the small curved area of sleeve on right side of fabric, Press seams together as you did with the dart seams. Repeat for other sleeve. Set aside.

    On the bodice, apply a thin line of glue to the wrong side of fabric, to the edge that has the darts. Fold over a small hem. Set aside.

    Attaching the bodice to the skirt is best done in two steps. On the right side of the fabric spread a thin line of glue to the waist edge of skirt. Start at the middle and go to one edge. Press lower edge of bodice to waistline. Repeat for other side of waist.

    On the wrong side of fabric apply a thin line of glue to the lower edge of skirt, fold over a small seam for hem. Set aside. Turn sleeve right side out and finger press seam. Sew a tiny running stitch in top edge of sleeve, turning under a small hem as you go. Set both sleeves aside.

    On right side of fabric, on one side of the dress, apply a thing line of glue from waistline to top of bodice.
    Fold dress in half and press seam closed.

    Lay skirt open to make gluing eaiser. Apply a thin line of glue form waist to bottom of skirt. Press closed and set aside.

    Gather the edge of the sleeve almost but not completely closed. Tie off thread. Repeat for other sleeve. Set aside.

    Turn dress right side out. Locate side of dress where you want sleeves. Apply a drop of glue under the opening left in sleeve gathering. Press to side of dress, leaving the opening barely above the edge. Repeat for other side.

    Place a drop of glue on each end of coat hanger. Insert the end into the opening of the gathered sleeve and press together. Lay dress down and find trim you wish to use on dress.

    Optional: Sew a running stitch through both layers of dress ang gather to desired waist size, or just leave the size it is now. Add ribbon to waist to simulate a belt.

    And there’s your lovely miniature dress!
